The war between the anthra and the rahlien has begun. But, all is not as it seems. The land they are fighting over appeared overnight. Land does not appear, unless it is willed into existence by an otherworld force. Does this have anything to do with the events in Deiyil and the demonic vaedziurs' second coming?
Penndarius and Soren find themselves in another day of excitement and turmoil as they search for answers in the fertile land and the Pentacle, an institute for the tutelage of magi. A ghost from Soren's past raises its deadly head as the killer of Soren's sister, Loken, his father. Penndarius gets separated from Soren and has to figure out what the vaedziur and the fertile land have in common, while trying to stop a volitile kirin from blowing up a city as it reaches the end of its life cycle. Penndarius leans on a kirin hunter with exceptionally bad luck, Kai, but does she have bad luck, or is something else responsible?
